Quigley Statement on Cook County Vote to Ban Video Gambling
October 6, 2009
CHICAGO Today, Congressman Mike Quigley (D-IL) issued the following statement following a vote to ban video gambling by the Cook County Board of Commissioners, a body on which Quigley served for over 10 years before being elected to Congress:
"The County board made the right choice today by pushing this issue and voting to ban video gambling. We need to identify revenue sources to improve the infrastructure of our communities, but video poker machines are not the answer. It devalues and deteriorates the same communities we are trying to grow, and preys upon people who can't afford it. I'm encouraged by Commissioner Gainer's leadership and the Board's willingness to do the right thing."
