Quigley Statement on Nomination of Andy Puzder for Labor Secretary

December 8, 2016

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement on the announcement that Andy Puzder, the CEO of CKE Restaurants, is President-Elect Trump's nominee for Labor Secretary:

The President-elect's selection of Andy Puzder for Labor Secretary proves that the incoming administration has no intention of being a friend to the American worker. As CEO of CKE Restaurants, Mr. Puzder has openly voiced his opposition to increasing the minimum wage, providing paid sick leave, and expanding overtime pay requirements. Just as troubling are the reports of years of labor violations that have occurred at Carl's Jr. restaurants, of which CKE is the parent company. Our country deserves a Labor Secretary that will stand up for workers rights, strengthen our unions, and fight to close the widening income inequality gap so that our economic recovery is felt by all Americans. Instead the President-elect has chosen a person that will be more focused on enriching billionaire executives than growing and supporting the middle class. That is unacceptable, and I stand ready to hold Mr. Puzder accountable to his responsibilities on behalf of the hard-working families he will be obligated to protect.
