Quigley Statement Marking One Year of Russian Invasion of Ukraine

February 24, 2023

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), Co-Chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, released the following statement marking the one-year anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine:

"One year into Vladimir Putin's illegal, unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, Ukraine remains free. Despite the relentless onslaught on their cities and towns, the war crimes committed against their people, and the constantly threatening rhetoric, Ukrainians are undaunted. While the world has watched in horror as Russia has perpetrated atrocity after atrocity against Ukraine, we have also been moved and inspired by the resilience of Ukrainians. It is no mistake that cities and regions that were predicted to fall within days are free and independent today. It is entirely due to the determination of Ukrainians.

"Here at home, I am constantly reminded of the importance of our support for Ukraine by the Ukrainian Americans and Ukrainian refugees in my own community. They have shared their stories and the stories of their loved ones with me over the past year, never allowing us to forget what is being fought for.

"On this anniversary, I want to say to the Ukrainian people: we still stand with you today, tomorrow, and every day until this war is won. Slava Ukraini."
