Quigley Statement on Illinois' Participation in the Interstate Voter Registration Crosscheck System

Aug 4, 2017
Press Release

CHICAGO – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) issued the following statement calling for Illinois to withdraw its participation from the Interstate Voter Registration Crosscheck System:

“Considering the Illinois State Board of Elections’ (SBE) warranted refusal to comply with the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity’s request for voter information, I believe it is in the best interest of the SBE to withdraw its participation in the Interstate Voter Registration Crosscheck System. Not only are there numerous questions regarding the Crosscheck system’s ability to secure the private voter information it collects, but there are deep concerns that the program predominately produces inaccurate or false matches. Moreover, I do not believe any voter information should be made available to the President’s election commission. Doing so would only legitimize the President’s false claims of rampant voter fraud and will lead to increased voter suppression.“
