Quigley Statement on Environmental Review Announcement for Amtrak Relocation

October 27, 2026

Today, Chicago Congressman Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement after the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)’s announcement that it will conduct an environmental assessment of Amtrak’s proposed relocation of its 14th Street maintenance facility to Union Pacific’s Canal Street Yard:

“After weeks of raising concerns with Amtrak about the rollout and decision making behind their relocation of the 14th street maintenance facility, I am pleased to hear that FRA has responded to the community and will conduct a full environmental assessment, including a thorough analysis of the potential impacts and a review of alternative sites. This decision will give the community a long-overdue opportunity to provide input on the project. I am glad that Amtrak is taking this step. However, it must be the first of many efforts to provide transparency and establish open communication with residents to ensure their concerns are addressed moving forward. I will continue advocating for the needs of residents throughout this process.”
