Quigley Statement on Emergency Supplemental Appropriations

Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement after voting against H.R 3401, Emergency Supplemental Appropriations:

“The current crisis at the border is a humanitarian crisis and a horrific violation of basic human decency. Congress has a responsibility to provide humanitarian assistance to the innocent children and families being held in inhumane conditions, but I cannot in good conscience give this administration any additional funding for the border that does include appropriate oversight to hold them accountable for the crisis they have created. Without restrictions, I have no reason to believe the President or his administration will willingly terminate its prolonged use of unnecessary detentions or do anything to address unsanitary and dangerous conditions at border facilities.”
