Quigley Statement on Department of Health & Human Services’ New Strategic Plan

Press Release

WASHINGTON—Today, Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), a member of the Pro-Choice Caucus, released the following statement regarding new language in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) Strategic Plan, which states that life begins at conception:

“Earlier this month, HHS made a conscious, deceitful decision to sabotage ACA sign-ups by planning extensive shut-downs of the website during the open enrollment period. Now, it is once again aiming to undermine women’s most basic health care through newly-added language on its official website that targets reproductive decision-making. Women’s health care has been consistently under assault since President Trump took office, thanks to the Administration’s ignorance of comprehensive care and ongoing threats to women’s constitutional right to choose. I am disappointed but not surprised that the Trump Administration is employing new tactics to subtly erode and undercut women’s access to family planning services and support.”
