Quigley Statement on Chairman Nunes’ Meeting with President Trump

March 22, 2017

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), who serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI), released the following statement on Chairman Nunes' meeting with President Trump:

"Chairman Nunes has to decide where his priorities lie. He can lead a credible, bipartisan investigation that follows the facts wherever they lead or he can serve as a proxy for the President, aiding him in his efforts to create distractions, sow confusion, and advance false narratives. Unfortunately, I suspect that this was an effort to divert attention away from Monday's open hearing and the doubt it cast on the President's credibility. The Chairman's announcement does not vindicate President Trump from his wiretapping claims, which remain unsupported by evidence.

"Today's events raise serious concerns about the bipartisan cooperation we will receive from the Chairman, as neither Democrats nor Republicans were briefed prior to his announcement. But distractions will not deter us from the important work at hand, and I am as committed as ever to this investigation."
