Quigley Statement on CBO Scoring for Republican Health Care Plan

March 13, 2017

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), released the following statement on the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report on the Republican health care plan:

"The Trump Administration promised that repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act would make our nation a healthier, safer place for all. Once again, the reality is different than the rhetoric.

"The fact is that 24 million more Americans would be uninsured by 2026 under the Republican health care law than under the Affordable Care Act. How can any individual – Democrat or Republican – honestly say that this law would make Americans better off when it would leave 52 million without quality, affordable care? But these devastating impacts are not just a few years away; they are immense and immediate with an estimate of 14 million fewer being insured by next year alone. We cannot afford to go backwards when lives are on the line.

"Today's CBO scoring just highlights the consequences of prioritizing partisan games and political points over common-sense, bipartisan progress. Instead of weakening our health care, I stand ready to work with both parties to improve the Affordable Care Act and the essential coverage it provides to so many."
