Quigley Statement on Anti-Semitic Comments of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar

February 11, 2019

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), released the following statement:

"Anti-Semitism has no place in our country, including in the halls of our government. Wherever and whenever we hear hate-based language used, we must call it out immediately and vehemently. Religious bigotry, in any form, is not welcome in our national discourse.

"Israel is our most trusted regional ally. Yet, Israel's policy positions, like those of any country, can be legitimately criticized based on sincere disagreements. As Americans, we are afforded the First Amendment's protection over political speech. While I respect that right, Congresswoman Omar's comments alluded to old, repugnant anti-Semitic tropes. I strongly condemn those offensive stereotypes, and I reject her recent remarks and welcome her apology."
