Quigley Recognized for Strong Environmental Record

February 11, 2014

WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) received a 96 percent rating on the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) 2013 National Environment Scorecard for his strong support of pro-environment legislation.

"I'm honored to be recognized by the League of Conservation Voters for my commitment to the environment. After another record breaking year of extreme weather, longer droughts and rising global temperatures, it is critical that Congress focus on legislation that combats our biggest environmental challenges. Working against one of the most anti-environment Congresses in history, I'm proud to stand up for efforts that protect our environment and public health," said Rep. Quigley.

In 2013, the House of Representatives passed anti-environment legislation 113 times, averaging to nearly one anti-environment vote every other legislative day. If this trend continues, the House is on track to have the worst environmental record in history.

The 2013 Scorecard covers 28 House votes, including efforts to roll back vital environmental laws like the Clean Water and Clean Air Acts, approve the hazardous Keystone XL pipeline and undermine protections for our public lands.

Since 1970, the annual National Environmental Scorecard has tracked key Congressional votes to rate members on environmental, public health and energy issues.

Rep. Quigley is a stalwart supporter of the environment and a member of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition. He has urged his colleagues in the House to put partisanship aside and craft America's first national energy plan. He has opposed the environmentally harmful Keystone XL pipeline and recently fought to protect America's public lands from weakened environmental standards. In 2013, he held his first Chicago Climate Tour and visited regional environmental sites to hear from experts on the local impact of climate change and efforts to address the issue.
