Quigley Invites Alderman Martin as State of the Union Guest
Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) announced that he invited Alderman Matt Martin as his guest to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union on Tuesday, February 4, 2020. Martin is currently serving his first term as alderman of the 47th Ward in Chicago.
“Alderman Martin is an inspiring new voice on the city council who exemplifies the progressive values that we both share. In his time in public service thus far, I have come to greatly admire his dedication to fighting for equal housing opportunities, infrastructure improvements for our city, and access to healthcare for all,” said Quigley. “I’m excited to work with the Alderman for many years to come and look forward to having him as my guest next week.”
“Whether tackling income inequality, lack of funding for public projects, or the growing climate crisis, our city deserves big ideas to address big challenges. I know that Congressman Quigley shares these ideals and his invitation to visit with him in Washington, D.C. and attend the State of the Union is an opportunity for the two of us to discuss ways we can work together to help our communities,” said Martin.
Martin is serving his first term as Alderman of Chicago's 47th Ward. Prior to his election, Martin worked as a civil rights lawyer at the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, where his work included helping draft Chicago's consent decree. Martin’s aldermanic priorities include expanding his ward’s affordable housing stock as well as its infrastructure for pedestrians and bikers.
