Quigley Highlights Federal Aid in Local Communities

CHICAGO - Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) visited the Franklin Park Fire Department and Amundsen High School to promote federal efforts helping local institutions improve their service to their communities.

The Franklin Park Fire Department was awarded a $461,724 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant, which will be used to hire additional firefighters and paramedics. Amundsen High School recently received thirteen computers from Rep. Quigley's District Office for their tutoring center. The donation was made under the auspices of the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA).

"From grants to hire firefighters to computers to educate students, today is a prime example of how the Federal Government can help our local communities," said Rep. Quigley. "Congratulations to Franklin Park on this important grant to further ensure the safety of their residents. Also, I know Amundsen will put these computers to excellent use and am thankful to be in a position to help our local students."

Rep. Quigley and Franklin Park Mayor Barrett Pedersen meet with Franklin Park Fire Chief Steve Iovinelli and local fire fighters about their recently granted SAFER funding.

"The SAFER grant was just what we needed. It will reduce overtime, it will increase employment and make the residents of Franklin Park safer. It's a great program, and Congress should continue to fund it," said Franklin Park Mayor Barrett Pedersen.

"Our goal every day is to make sure that are students are graduating with the knowledge and tools that are necessary for success in both college and career," Amundsen High School Principal Anna Pavichevich said. "This generous donation by Congressman Quigley will allow us to provide further opportunities for students to receive one-on-one support, and foster the computer science skills that are fundamental for a 21st century education."
