Quigley Goes “Undercover” At A.M. Castle & Co.

CHICAGO – Yesterday, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley toured A.M. Castle & Co. and worked alongside employees to manufacture parts for the U.S. Navy’s aircraft carrier construction and maintenance program as part of his Undercover Congressman series. The series connects Rep. Quigley with constituents at their place of employment to better understand the challenges they face in their industry and daily lives.

“Working side by side with the dedicated crew at Castle gave me valuable insight into the various types of technical training and education we have to invest in nationally to retain and grow our manufacturing industry,” said Rep. Quigley. “Thank you to everyone at A.M. Castle & Co. for such an informative day and for the work they are doing as a sustainable and socially responsible business in our district.”

“We were honored to host Representative Quigley this week at our Franklin Park facility. We appreciate the opportunity to educate people about our industry and business issues; and our warehouse staff welcomed the chance to speak one-on-one with Representative Quigley about a day in the life of a Castle employee,” said Erasmo Sols, Franklin Park Operations Manager.

While touring the facility, Rep. Quigley monitored employees working to smooth pieces of steel on precision saws and package the pieces for shipment. He then spent time with employees discussing their work experience at A.M. Castle & Co., tenures, opportunities for advancement within the industry and more.

Since taking office in 2009, Rep. Quigley has performed a wide range of jobs as an Undercover Congressman, including cleaning animal pens as a zookeeper at the Lincoln Park Zoo, packaging beer and cleaning tanks at a local brewery, pouring metal at a local metal refinery and delivering mail with United States Post Office.
