Quigley Circulating Letter Calling for TPS for Ukrainians

February 25, 2022

U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), co-chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, is circulating a draft letter to the Biden administration calling for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to be granted to Ukrainians amidst the ongoing Russian invasion. TPS provides protection from deportation for individuals of a country where conditions prevent them from returning. The bipartisan letter is currently co-led by Congressional Ukraine Caucus co-chairs U.S. Representatives Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), and Andy Harris (MD-01), and Representatives Ted Lieu (CA-33), Melanie Stansbury (NM-01), Joe Wilson (SC-02), and Dave Joyce (OH-14).

A draft of the letter reads, in part, "The Ukrainian people have proven to be incredibly brave in defending their homeland. We know they will continue to resist Russian aggression. Given the likelihood of prolonged armed conflict, we cannot force Ukrainian nationals in the United States to go back."

Quigley and the other co-leads are collecting signatures through Monday, February 28, 2022.
