Quigley Applauds Inclusion of Key Transparency Provision in Appropriations Bill

April 10, 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement after the House Appropriations Committee unanimously approved the Fiscal Year 2015 Legislative Branch Appropriations Bill to the full House, which included language Rep. Quigley requested that would improve public access to legislative information:

“I’m proud that the House is taking steps to utilize today’s technology to modernize public access to information. This bill is an important victory for increased transparency and openness in the legislative branch that will allow the public to get to obtain accurate and thorough bill information in an accessible format directly from Congress.”

The language included in the bill requires the Library of Congress to publish bill status information in a bulk downloadable format that can easily be integrated into websites and apps for public use by the next Congress.

Rep Quigley has made government reform, transparency and fiscal responsibility the cornerstones of his legislative agenda throughout his time in Congress. He is a co-founder and co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional Transparency Caucus, which seeks to enact legislation that will bring openness and accessibility to the federal government. Earlier this year he introduced the Transparency in Government Act, a wide-ranging good government reform bill that will bring unprecedented access and accountability to the federal government.
