Quigley Announces Winner of Congressional Art Contest
CHICAGO — This week, Congressman Mike Quigley (IL-05) announced Sergio Farfan Castillo from West Leyden High School as the winner of the Congressional Art Competition for Illinois' 5th Congressional District. His drawing in ink, "Life of a Teen," will hang in the United States Capitol for the next year.
"Art is a language that all people speak. It crosses social and economic barriers while enhancing cultural appreciation and awareness" said Quigley. "I congratulate Sergio on his fine drawing and am proud to have it represent Illinois' 5th District to people visiting our nation's Capitol. I want to thank the National Veterans Arts Museum for hosting this year's competition and allowing students to display their work in a museum setting and Arts Alive 45 for their partnership in this year's contest."

Jillian Cai from Hinsdale Central High School won second prize and Ridgewood High School's Anastasia Kostyshyn won third prize. Cai's "Chesapeake Reds" will be displayed in Quigley's Washington, D.C. office and Kostyshyn's "Reflections" will be hung in Quigley's Chicago office.
Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Congressional Institute and Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. It is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation. Southwest Airlines will fly Fargan Castillo, as well as all other winners, to Washington, D.C. for a ceremony this summer. The annual competition features art from each of the 435 congressional districts across the country.
