Quigley ALS Legislation to Receive House Vote

December 6, 2021

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) shared a statement after House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer announced that ACT for ALS will be considered on the House floor this Wednesday. ACT for ALS, or the Accelerating Access to Critical Therapies for ALS Act, would help people living with ALS get early access to promising treatments and help researchers gain a better understanding of neurodegenerative diseases.

Quigley's statement is below:

"I am incredibly grateful to the House Energy & Commerce Committee, who favorably reported the ACT for ALS, and to House leadership for ensuring that the bill finally receives a vote on the floor. For those who are impacted by this disease, there is simply no time to wait. I have been incredibly moved by their stories, their perseverance, and their unflagging optimism in the face of a devastating disease. I cannot wait to stand on the House floor and cast my vote on behalf of every American who has championed this legislation."

Quigley is expected to speak from the floor of the House in support of the legislation on Wednesday, prior to the vote by the full House. ACT for ALS has enjoyed overwhelming bipartisan support with over 331 co-sponsors in the House and 51 in the Senate, where it is led by Senator Chris Coons (D-DE), co-chair of the Senate ALS Caucus, and Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK). ACT for ALS will authorize $100 million to create a public-private partnership for rare neurodegenerative diseases at HHS to streamline the development and approval of new therapies and will establish a rare neurodegenerative grant program at FDA.
