September 20, 2016

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley’s (IL-05) bill to rename the United States Post Office at 6300 N. Northwest Highway in Chicago, Illinois as the “Officer Joseph P. Cali Post Office Building” in honor of the fallen Chicago police officer was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration.

“I am proud to honor Officer Cali’s bravery and service as a Chicago police officer with the dedication of the U.S. Post Office in Northwest Chicago,” said Rep. Quigley. “Officer Cali made the ultimate sacrifice, and while I wish we could do more, I am hopeful that this post office can stand in Officer Cali’s name and memorialize the dedication and sacrifice he made for the City of Chicago.”

Rep. Quigley spoke on behalf of his bill during debate time on the House floor. View his remarks here.

On May 19, 1975, Officer Cali, a 41st Ward resident, was shot in the head and killed by a sniper while writing a citation on West Lake Street.
