Congressional Ukraine Caucus Leads Show of Support for Ukraine During State of the Union
Today, Congressional Ukraine Caucus Co-Chair U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (D-IL-05) and his fellow Co-Chairs, Representatives Marcy Kaptur (D-OH-09), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-01) and Andy Harris (R-MD-01), assembled and distributed blue and yellow ribbons for Members of Congress and Senators to wear during President Joe Biden's State of the Union address. The effort is a bipartisan, bicameral show of ongoing support for the Ukrainian people.
"On one of the rare nights in Washington, D.C when members from both parties and both chambers of Congress are gathered together and the eyes of the world turn to our Capitol, it is important that we continue to show our unwavering support for the people of Ukraine," said Quigley. "Almost one year after Russia's illegal invasion, the world has seen Vladimir Putin's cruelty and disregard for human life. We have also seen Ukraine's steadfast determination to defend its democracy and repel the invaders. I look forward to seeing my colleagues on both sides of the aisle don their ribbons tonight and stand together with Ukraine."
The Congressional Ukraine Caucus has more than 80 bipartisan members working together to represent the priorities of the Ukrainian-American diaspora and the people of Ukraine.
Quigley represents one of the largest Ukrainian-American communities in the nation and, since coming to Congress, has worked closely with local Ukrainian organizations such as the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America Illinois Division, to help inform his decisions in Washington as it relates to promoting and protecting Ukrainian sovereignty. Last year, Quigley traveled to Ukraine to see the impacts of the invasion firsthand and he twice met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
