Chair Thompson Announces Rep. Mike Quigley As Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Vice Chair For 118th Congress
Today, Chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) announced Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) as a Vice Chair of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force for the 118th Congress.
"Gun violence plagues our communities, and it takes strong, dedicated, and committed leaders to advance gun violence prevention policies in Congress," said Thompson. "Rep. Quigley is one of those leaders. In his time in Congress, Mike has a proven track record of not backing down from a tough fight and has demonstrated a willingness to pursue commonsense gun violence prevention measures in Congress. Mike will be a great addition to our Task Force and I look forward to working with him to address the scourge of gun violence."
As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, Rep. Quigley has been a vocal advocate for gun violence prevention. He has supported a number of bills aimed at reducing gun violence, including universal background checks and a ban on assault weapons.
"Every American deserves to go about their lives free from the fear of gun violence. Unfortunately, my constituents know all too well how gun violence can change a community forever. That's why I have spent my time in Congress fighting so hard to end this epidemic and why I am so grateful to be named as Vice Chair of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force for the 118th Congress," said Quigley. "I look forward to working alongside Rep. Mike Thompson and the entire task force to advance common sense gun violence prevention legislation."
The House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force is a bipartisan group of lawmakers working to find common-sense solutions to reduce gun violence in the United States. The Task Force was formed in the aftermath of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School and has been instrumental in passing a number of gun violence prevention measures. The Task Force numbered over 180 members of Congress in the 117th Congress. The Gun Violence Prevention Task Force played a leadership role in securing the most significant gun violence prevention legislation in 30 years with the passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, higher funding to run the background checks program and research gun violence, and programs to break the cycle of violence.
