Democratic Rep. Mike Quigley told CNN Wednesday morning that the border wall will not work because most people crossing the border want to be apprehended "because they're seeking a status here in the United States."

"They're not trying to sneak across," he said. "Why spend billions on an idea that doesn't work?"

REP. MIKE QUIGLEY: I don't think the wall makes any sense. If you are concerned about narcotics crossing, 85% of those narcotics are crossing at the checkpoints. If you're worried about security, the vast majority of those attempting to cross the border want to be apprehended because they're seeking a status here in the United States. They're not trying to sneak across.

Why spend billions on an idea that doesn't work? Century-old technology. I'm for border security. I think the compromise is using that money on programs and projects that actually accomplish that goal. I think that's a worthy compromise.
