Supporting Our Great Lakes
Dear Friend,
As a member of the House Great Lakes Task Force and House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition, I am excited to update you on a bill that will provide substantial support of the Great Lakes Fishery industry.
Today, I introduced the bipartisan, bicameral Great Lakes Fishery Research Authorization Act of 2016 with Dr. Dan Benishek (MI-01) and Senators Gary Peters (D-MI) and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI). Our legislation will provide the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Great Lakes Science Center with the dedicated funding it needs to conduct critical research and support the $7 billion Great Lakes sport and commercial fishery industry. The Great Lakes Science Center is already conducting vital research, but they are limited by piecemeal funding from Congress. That's why I'm proud to introduce this bill to ensure the Great Lakes Science Center has the funding it needs to better manage the complex challenges of the Great Lakes ecosystem.
The USGS Great Lakes Science Center is the only agency that conducts lake-wide fisheries science assessments on each of the five Great Lakes. As a representative that is passionate about our Great Lakes and environment at-large, I am proud to add this legislation to the work I have accomplished as a member of the Great Lakes Task Force.
Show your support for the Great Lakes Fishery Research Authorization Act of 2016 by sharing this message on Facebook, Twitter, or forwarding this email to your friends and family. Thank you, as always, for all of your support.
Sincerely,
Mike Quigley
