Our 2023 Wrap Up
Dear Mr. Friend,
As 2023 comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the past year. While it was a record-setting year in unproductiveness thanks to the Republican Majority in Congress, I still fought every day to improve conditions for you and your family. There is so much work that must be done in the new year. I want you to know that I won't stop fighting on your behalf.
Serving You
I'm pleased to share that my staff and I continued to help constituents like you navigate our federal bureaucracy throughout the year. My office opened cases for more than 3,000 constituents and resolved over 1,700 cases with positive results. This year, my staff and I were also fortunate to attend over 78 community meetings, helped more than 431 Illinoisans plan trips to Washington, D.C., and responded to more than 76,413 letters and phone calls.

Bringing Dollars Home to IL-05
I've been working hard to bring direct funding to our district. In 2023, I was proud to secure approximately $495,192,720 for our communities. This included Community Project Funding secured for projects like the Black Ensemble Theater, the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, and the 606 Trail Expansion. The House of Representatives also approved more than $13 million for local projects in FY24. While that funding has not yet been signed into law, as a member of the Appropriations Committee, I'll keep working with my colleagues across the aisle and in both chambers of Congress until it is.
My work didn't end there. My staff and I also helped recover more than $8.5 million for constituents in fees from federal agencies.

Looking Ahead to 2024
While I was incredibly disappointed in the lack of output under the Republican Majority this year, I'll be heading back to Washington, D.C. re-energized. After spending the last few weeks home in Chicago talking with voters, I'm more committed than ever to making sure the issues that matter to you are addressed. From defending abortion access and LGBTQIA+ rights, to fighting the climate crisis and the gun violence epidemic, there is so much work to be done.
To that end, I hope you'll take a moment to complete the survey below and let me know what your family wants Congress to tackle in the new year.
