Catching Up With Quigley: Week of September 8
Dear Friend,
Our city confronted more threats from Trump this week. I stand shoulder to shoulder with you in opposing his incursion, and I am fighting for real solutions to violence in our communities.
1. Celebrated Mexican Independence Day & Shared Know Your Rights Information
While Donald Trump hid behind a screen, we in Chicagoland have joined our neighbors in action.
I was proud to celebrate Mexican Independence Day in Pilsen and participate in a Know Your Rights discussion about responding to ICE with Rep. Chuy Garcia, Senator Dick Durbin, and more this weekend. We will get through this—together.

2. Advocated for Gun Violence Prevention Research Funding
I introduced an amendment to preserve funding for federal gun violence prevention research in a House Appropriations Committee markup. My amendment would reinstate $35 million in CDC funding and $25 million in NIH funding for this research. House Republicans eliminated this funding in their government funding bill, and when I gave them the opportunity to reinstate it, they voted against my amendment.

3. Condemned Russia’s Illegal Violation of Polish Airspace
This week, the Co-Chairs of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus and I condemned Russia’s reckless and illegal violation of Polish airspace and its ongoing brutal and illegal attacks on Ukraine. Russia’s incursion into Polish airspace was not only a reckless escalation—it was a direct challenge to NATO’s Article 5 commitment. Together with my colleagues, we reaffirm our unwavering support for Poland, Ukraine, and all our NATO allies. We also called for decisive and immediate measures to address this dangerous threat.
