Catching Up With Quigley: Week of October 6

E-Newsletters

Dear Friend,

As we entered the second week of the Republican shutdown, I remained in my district, standing alongside everyone impacted by the Trump administration.

1. Stood with Chicagoland Against Trump's Incursion

Quigley statement on deployment of National Guard

Chicagoland has been reeling from the influx of ICE agents and their escalatory actions in our communities. Instead of helping lower the temperature, this week, Trump inflamed tensions by deploying the Texas National Guard into Illinois. The deployment of hundreds of ICE agents and National Guard troops is not only unnecessary, it’s costing us millions of tax dollars. None of it is making us safer.

The city of Chicago and the state of Illinois will not stand by while the Trump Administration terrorizes our neighbors. I will continue to call for accountability and oversight of ICE and National Guard troops, and we will stand with our neighbors to peacefully protest Trump’s illegal actions.

2. Welcomed the News of an Israel-Gaza Ceasefire

After two years of devastating violence, the first phase of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas is long-awaited good news. I will be watching developments very closely over the next few days, and I call on all parties to fully implement the agreement.

In the coming days, I hope to see the violence stop, all remaining hostages be released, and a significant surge in humanitarian aid into Gaza. The United States and our partners in the region must do our part to help maintain a lasting peace, ensure Israel’s long-term security, rebuild Gaza, and establish a true path forward for the peaceful coexistence of two states for the Palestinian and Israeli people.

3. Demanded Trump Give CTA Their Funding

This week my Illinois colleagues and I demanded answers from Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy about the $2.1 billion for CTA that the administration is holding hostage. This unprecedented action threatens thousands of good jobs in Chicago and hurts economic development across Chicagoland.

Illinoisans pay more in federal taxes than we receive back, and we deserve an explanation for this illegal decision. I worked hard as a member of Congress to bring this money back to Chicago and I will continue to fight for the release of this funding so these projects can move forward.
