Catching Up With Quigley: Week of May 20
Dear Friend,
I hope you have had a good week. I wanted to touch base and share an exciting announcement for Illinois' fifth district.
1. Unveiled 15 Local Projects for Funding Consideration

Since 2021, I have been proud to secure over $40 million in funding to support local projects across our district. This year, I am honored to put forward another 15 projects for funding consideration – projects that will have a practical and positive impact on communities in Illinois’ fifth. From helping protect police to building affordable housing units and replacing dangerous lead service lines, I know these projects will not only change lives but will also save lives.
The 15 community projects were selected from nearly 70 applications and marks the fourth time members have been able to submit specific community projects for direct funding since 2021. I selected these projects based on strict Committee requirements and using my first-hand knowledge of the issues facing the Fifth District.

2. Made the Case for Investing in High-Speed Rail in Chicago

Millions of Chicagoans use public transportation to get to work, visit friends and family, or travel across the Midwest. It is common sense that we would lead the rest of the nation in the push for high-speed rail. As the Ranking Democrat on the Appropriations Subcommittee that funds the Department of Transportation, I know this better than anyone. Earlier this month, I published an article in the Chicago Tribune to convey my support for a high-speed rail project in our city. The benefits of high-speed rail are numerous. Not only is it safer than travel by car, it is also eight times more energy efficient than airplanes and four times more efficient than automobile use. Additionally, investing in high-speed rail in Chicago could create thousands of well-paid jobs.

One of my highest priorities as your elected representative is sharing resources with my constituents. On June 13, my office will be hosting a FREE fair to connect seniors with critical resources and services. You can visit booths to collect materials and learn more about the federal, state, and local programs available to you.
The fair will take place on June 13, 2024, from 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM at the Frisbie Senior Center located at 52 East Northwest Highway Des Plaines, IL.
Don't forget, our office is always here to help.
