Catching Up With Quigley: Week of May 13
Dear Friend,
I wanted to take a moment to celebrate National Bike Month and recap some of the work I did this week while in Washington.
1. Met with Vice President Al Gore to Discuss Climate Change

As Co-Chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition, I was proud to welcome Vice President Al Gore to speak about the threats posed by climate change. For decades, Vice President Gore has been one of the most important voices sounding the alarm about the climate crisis. I had a chance to ask him how he suggests we better educate the world on the reality of climate change and what steps we must be taking now to save our planet. During the meeting, Members of Congress asked a variety of questions about everything from sustainable farming practices to how we can effectively communicate the importance of protecting our environment.
2. Celebrated National Bike Month
This week, I took a moment to recognize National Bike Month and share some of the work I have done to promote expanded bike use in Chicago and across the country. Whether in Chicago or in Washington, my bike is my preferred way to get where I need to go. I have been proud to support a variety of efforts to make biking more accessible and safer for all Americans, including through my support for the E-Bike Act. This bill would create a consumer tax credit for the purchase of electric bicycles. Back home in Chicago, I recently secured $480,000 in funding to allow the Village of Arlington Heights to build a safe and accessible path connecting the Palatine Trail with the Prospect Heights Trail for people to walk and bike on. All of these national and local efforts are necessary to reduce our carbon footprint and encourage people to enjoy some time outside.

3. Supported the FAA Reauthorization Bill

This week, I voted on the bipartisan and bicameral Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act of 2024 to reauthorize the FAA for five years while creating a safer, cleaner, greener, and more accessible U.S. aviation system. This legislation provides a framework to maintain America’s leadership in aviation safety and aerospace innovation, strengthens and diversifies our aviation workforce, improves consumer protections and accessibility, and makes groundbreaking investments in sustainability and resiliency. As the lead Democrat on the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, ensuring our air travel remains operational and safe for all Americans is a top priority. I was pleased to see this bill pass the House and be signed into law by President Biden.
