Catching Up With Quigley: Week of March 3

March 7, 2025
E-Newsletters

Dear Friend,

While in Washington, D.C. this week, I held the first of what I intend to be several town hall opportunities to speak with my constituents. Keep reading to learn how you can watch a recap and learn how I responded to the President's joint address.

1. Held a Virtual Town Hall

On Wednesday, March 5 more than 5,400 of you tuned in to my virtual town hall. I answered questions about how I'm fighting Trump and Musk and how we can confront a constitutional crisis. Also with me was Ed Yohnka from ACLU Illinois, who helped field questions about the legal cases against Trump. If you weren't able to join us on Wednesday night, you can still catch a replay on YouTube. Know that this was just the first of what I intend to be a series of town halls, including in-person town halls planned for the coming months.

2. Boycotted Donald Trump's Joint Address

Since taking office, I believe that Donald Trump has set flame to every democratic norm and principle of our government. That is why I could not in good conscience adhere to the norm of attending his joint address. I used the occasion to invite a government worker who has been impacted by Trump's actions to Washington. Instead of attending the address, I spent that time learning more about how the Trump-Musk cuts are impacting air traffic controllers and focusing on making government work better to address the pressing problems facing Chicagoans.

3. Spoke Out Against Trump Halting Aid to Ukraine

On Monday, Donald Trump abruptly halted all military aid to Ukraine. Unfortunately, this came as no surprise from a president who has moved beyond appeasement and into aiding and abetting the war criminal Vladimir Putin. I called on my Republican colleagues who have previously expressed support for Ukraine to use this moment to finally stand up to Trump. The time has come to choose between democracy and autocracy
