Catching Up with Quigley: Week of June 8
Here are three things I did as your Representative this week:
1. Decried Cross Burning in Grant Park
Ten days before Juneteenth, and in the hometown of Emmett Till, someone burned a cross. This is a despicable act of violence.
The normalization of white nationalism by Trump and members of his administration has empowered the worst of our nation. We have cabinet members who proudly wear Nazi tattoos and a systemic effort to wield the federal government to hurt Black communities. We must call out this rampant racism and condemn it once again to the trash heap of history..

2. Condemned Republicans Wasting Time on CPS Hearing
Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers do not care about American students. If they did, they would not be slashing funding for K-12 schooling and Head Start. They certainly would not be attacking Chicago Public Schools. Instead, this week, they held a pointless Committee hearing to make transphobic and homophobic accusations against students, parents, and teachers.
Our schools should be safe havens for all kids, no matter their identity. We should trust our educators to support students and back schools teaching evidence-based curriculum.

3. Fought Trump's Push to Send Guns by Mail
During an ongoing national crisis of mass shootings, the Trump administration wants to ignore a 99-year-old law and allow people to mail handguns
We need to make it harder for criminals to get guns, not easier.
