Catching Up with Quigley: Week of June 22

This week in Washington, I fought to bring housing costs down, keep our troops protected, and support our students and teachers.

1. Voted for Historic Housing Solution Only for Trump to Walk Away From Signing

This week, I voted YES on the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act! This bill will lower costs and reduce barriers to building new homes. On Wednesday, President Trump was supposed to sign the bill into law, but he backed out at the last minute and chose to double down on the SAVE Act instead, which even Mitch McConnell knows is a voter suppression measure.

Rather than work with Democrats and Republicans on solving our housing crisis, Trump wants to restrict voting. He's doing all of this because he knows he's going to get creamed in the midterms this fall.

2. Introduced Amendment to Support NATO

I also offered an amendment to this year's Defense Department funding bill to preserve our role in NATO.

The NATO alliance has kept the world safe since the end of World War II, and it needs the United States' leadership. My amendment would have banned government funds from being used to reduce our forces in Europe and close key military facilities that support NATO.

Unfortunately, thanks to the Republican majority, my amendment did not pass.

3. Joined Effort to Impeach Education Secretary Linda McMahon

From firing the staffers who support special education to attempting to destroy the Department itself, former WWE Head Linda McMahon has proven to be unfit to support America's students. That's why I'm joining Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici from the Education and Workforce Committee in calling for McMahon's impeachment.

We knew McMahon was unqualified for Education Secretary when she was first nominated by Trump. But her alliance with Project 2025 architect Russell Vought and her attacks on students with disabilities have proven her to be a disaster. We need to save the Department of Education and only approve an Education Secretary who actually wants to improve our schools.
