Catching Up With Quigley: Week of July 7

E-Newsletters

Dear Friend,

During this District Work Period, I spent time in the community and addressing both local and international issues.

1. Stood with Humboldt Park Immigrant Community

On Tuesday, more than a dozen Homeland Security vehicles gathered for over two hours outside Chicago’s National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture in Humboldt Park. Instead of using taxpayer dollars to make our communities safer or provide better healthcare to seniors, this administration is paying for ICE agents to needlessly frighten Chicago communities. The museum is hosting the Barrio Arts Festival this weekend.

I stand with Chicagoland’s entire immigrant community against these blatant intimidation tactics.

2. Called for Trump to Release Critical Education Funds

On June 30, just one day before the Education Department was set to disburse nearly $7 billion dollars for K-12 schools and adult education, the Trump Administration froze the federal funding. These funds are essential for schools and youth programs across the country, including summer programs currently underway. Local organizations are already making difficult decisions around program cancellations, layoffs, and delayed planning for the upcoming school year. It is unconscionable that the Trump Administration would freeze the funding at the last possible moment and jeopardize these important programs.

Today, I joined 149 of my colleagues in demanding answers from the Trump Administration.

3. Criticized Trump's Ukraine Policy on CNN

Today on CNN, I discussed how President Trump's Ukraine strategy fails to recognize that Ukraine's fight is our fight. If we don't address Putin's aggression in Ukraine, we risk emboldening him and other tyrants across the world. I also talked about the politicization of our Intelligence Community and how Trump's trade policy is driven by chaos and personal vendettas.
