Catching Up with Quigley: Week of July 6
This week, I spent time in our district sharing resources with our community.
1. Visited the Irving Park YMCA
Earlier today, I visited the Irving Park YMCA, where officials have been working to make the facility more accessible for all residents. As part of the fiscal year 2023 appropriations process, I secured $1,750,000 for the YMCA to install a wheelchair ramp and an elevator to help residents access the building safely and reach the upper levels.
The Irving Park YMCA is home to 213 affordable housing units, and, currently, people who use wheelchairs or have other mobility issues struggle to use the full services of the building. I'm proud that the funding I brought home will help ensure that is no longer the case.

2. Hosted Community Resource Fair
I also hosted a FREE community resource fair to connect Chicagoans with critical government services. My team and I were thrilled to see dozens of Chicagoans stop by and visit booths, collect materials, and learn more about the federal, state, and local programs that exist to support you.

3. Called for Investigation into Texas ICE Killing
I also joined Congressman Joaquin Castro from Texas in calling for an independent investigation into the ICE killing of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. On Tuesday, Lorenzo picked up his construction crew and drove to work, until he was shot and killed by ICE.
We still don’t know what led up to ICE killing Lorenzo, but we do know he had no criminal record. We know he had a family and was working on obtaining legal status. And we know that ICE has lied about the people they've killed before.
