Catching Up With Quigley: Week of July 14

E-Newsletters

Dear Friend,

I spent this week fighting back against Trump and Republicans' dangerous attacks.

1. Fought Back Against Trump's Cuts to Basic Needs

Quigley speaks out during hearing.

Yesterday, I voted against Donald Trump and Republicans' reckless legislation to claw back $9 billion in federal spending. This was funding that was approved by these same Republicans in Congress just six months ago. These cuts are an outright assault on public TV and radio at a time when our nation is experiencing unpredictable extreme weather. Republicans decided to hurt the middle class and working families and undermine our national security, all to pay for tax breaks for billionaires.

2. Shared the Harmful Impacts of Trump's Housing Cuts

This is Tamara, a grandmother, cancer survivor, and lifelong resident of Chicago’s North Side. When her daughter struggled, Tamara stepped in and took care of her grandchildren. With the help of a housing voucher, she was able to care for her whole family.

I shared Tamara's story in Congress this week because housing vouchers have helped people like Tamara for decades. Now, the Trump Administration is trying to slash this bipartisan program. In my role on the Housing Committee, I'm pushing back.

3. Highlighted an American Story of Progress

Quigley shares the story of Brad and Donald Lang.

On Wednesday, I paid tribute to a friend of mine, Brad Lang, and his father, whose story encapsulates the power of progress in American history. Brad's father, Donald, was an aspiring pilot who was prevented from flying by racism and bigotry. Donald passed his passion for flight down to his son. Brad would go on to fulfill his father's dream by earning his pilot's license and becoming a Captain for Delta Airlines at a time when Black pilots were still rare.

You can learn more about Brad and Donald's story by watching my speech HERE.
