Catching Up with Quigley: Week of January 12

E-Newsletters

This week in DC, I fought to end ICE violence and protect your workplace rights. Here are three things I did:

1. Working to Cut ICE Funding

Under the second Trump administration, funding for ICE and CBP has TRIPLED - all while poorly trained, masked agents detain and now kill U.S. citizens and legal residents.

Today, I went on Fox 32 to announce that I'm working on an amendment that will cut funding to ICE and CBP - unless major changes are made to DHS operations. This amendment would alter the upcoming Homeland Security Appropriations bill to prohibit raids near sensitive locations like schools and courthouses, require agents to wear body cameras, ban them from wearing masks, and eliminate the use of chemical irritants on bystanders. It would also stop illegal, warrantless arrests and prevent CBP from operating in non-border states (like Illinois).

I'm also backing Rep. Robin Kelly's articles of impeachment against DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. And, I was proud to attend a rally in Oz Park last weekend to protest the violence perpetuated by these agents and the killing of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis.

I'm going to keep speaking up and speaking out until this chaos ends.

2. Defended Workers' Rights

This week, I joined every Democrat and six Republicans to defeat anti-labor legislation that would make it easier for companies to force their staff to attend unpaid trainings afterhours.

After this bill failed on the House Floor, Speaker Johnson canceled two additional anti-labor votes that would have chipped away at protections for overtime pay and tipped workers. I am proud to stand against this legislation that would have harmed working families.

3. Celebrated Illinois Athletes Qualifying for Team USA

I also celebrated SIX athletes from Illinois for qualifying for this winter's Olympics! As an avid hockey player, I'm so excited to see them represent our state and our country in these winter games.

Please join me in congratulating them on making Team USA!
