Catching Up With Quigley: Week of August 4

E-Newsletters

Dear Friend,

As the August District Work Period continues, I'm excited to see so many constituents throughout our community.

Here are three things I did this week to represent you:

1. Called for U.S. to Recognize a Palestinian State

Quigley calls for US to recognize a Palestinian State

On Tuesday, I called for the United States to recognize a Palestinian state.

I am deeply horrified by the reporting and images coming out of the Gaza Strip. The killing of civilians and the forced starvation of thousands are abhorrent and must come to an end. To date, more than 60,000 Palestinians have died in this conflict, half of whom are women and children.

Since October 7, I have consistently upheld Israel’s right to defend itself and have repeatedly called on Hamas to immediately and unconditionally release the hostages, and I reiterate this call today. But how Israel conducts itself in this war matters greatly.

I am calling for the United States to officially recognize a Palestinian state to ensure a peaceful future for the region as well as the safety and security of both Palestinians and Israelis. While recognition cannot in one sweeping stroke create a state, and much work remains to be done, I want to make clear that Americans remain dedicated to ensuring the rights of the Palestinian people to a national homeland are recognized, respected, and fulfilled.

2. Went Undercover at Local Manufacturer E.J. Basler

I also went at undercover E.J. Basler Co – a local manufacturer and machining shop in Schiller Park. As an Undercover Congressman, I’ve worked alongside numerous residents in dozens of jobs in our district. These jobs help me learn more about my constituents, the important work they do, and their unique challenges.

At E.J. Basler, I helped manufacture pieces for hydraulic machinery. I also learned about the potential impacts of Trump’s tariffs on materials E.J Basler and other manufacturers rely on to produce their products, and the need to expand the workforce pipeline for manufacturing in Chicagoland. Manufacturing is a critical piece of the Chicagoland economy, and I’m grateful to the E.J. Basler team for sharing their profession with me for a day.

3. Celebrated New U.S. Citizens at Wrigley Field Oath Ceremony

Wrigley Field Hosts Citizenship Oath Ceremony

Yesterday, I celebrated 977 new citizens being sworn in at the Citizenship Oath Ceremony at Wrigley Field, alongside Senator Durbin and Representative Schakowsky.

While the current administration continues to attack immigrants, I was proud to watch our community stand strong and celebrate this tremendous achievement.
