This week, I spoke out during about foreign affairs funding and helped connect seniors with resources they need.

1. Held Our Allies Accountable in Appropriations Hearing

This week, I spoke up during a markup of the Appropriations Committee’s foreign affairs funding bill. The American people have been crystal clear—they want us to reexamine how we provide aid to foreign countries. This discussion needs to include the aid we provide to Israel. As part of that discussion, I introduced an amendment to block any U.S. funding from being used by Israel to expand settlements in Gaza and the West Bank. I also introduced an amendment to set aside $400 million to begin rebuilding Gaza.

2. Celebrated Beginning of Red Line Extension

I joined other elected officials and the CTA for the groundbreaking of the Red Line Extension Project, which will bring the train line to the Far South Side and add four new stops beyond 95th Street. I helped secure $2.1 billion of the $5.7 billion needed for the project back in 2024, but the Trump administration illegally froze these funds in 2025. Thankfully, a judge reversed the freeze earlier this spring. I'm going to keep fighting to make sure every cent of that money gets to the CTA.

3. Hosted Free Resource Fair for Senior Citizens

On Thursday, I hosted my biannual Senior Resource Fair, bringing together local and federal agencies, and other organizations to help seniors in our district access the help they need. We helped seniors file their taxes, learn about their social security benefits, and more. My next senior fair will be this fall when I hope to bring just as many resources to seniors around Chicagoland. Make sure you're subscribed to this newsletter to be the first to know more about that and other events hosted by my office.
