Quigley Statement on the Need for EPA Administrator Pruitt to Resign

April 3, 2018

CHICAGO U.S. Representatives Mike Quigley (IL-05), who serves as a Vice Chair of the Sustainable Energy & Environment Coalition, released the following statement on the need for EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt to resign in light of recent ethics concerns:

"Scott Pruitt and I have extensive policy differences regarding environmental protection and the role of the EPA, but recent revelations regarding numerous serious ethical concerns about Administrator Pruitt's behavior should be concerning to everyone, regardless of politics. Seemingly every day, we are presented with a new damning report about yet another instance of Mr. Pruitt wasting taxpayer money on personal expenses, abusing his position to obtain impermissible benefits from lobbyists, or violating directives, including from the White House, in order to give unmerited raises to employees he favors.

"Sadly, Mr. Pruitt has demonstrated himself to be dishonest and corrupt, and it is clear that he is incapable of leading a federal agency. For these reasons, I call on Scott Pruitt to resign immediately and if he will not, I call on the President to fire him. President Trump came to Washington pledging to ‘drain the swamp' but every day Scott Pruitt remains at EPA, he provides his implicit approval for unethical behavior throughout his Administration."
