Honoring Our Nation's Veterans

Dear Friend,

Veterans Day is a special opportunity to honor the brave men and women who have sacrificed so much in defense of our security and our freedom. In advance of tomorrow's holiday, I want to take this time to thank our nation's heroes for their courage and commitment, which have preserved the ideals of democracy, liberty, opportunity and justice for all, upon which our great country was built.

During my time in Congress, I've fought in support of policies that will improve the lives of our veterans. As the only Illinois member of the House Appropriations Committee, I've been proud to push for robust funding for Veterans Affairs (VA) mental health programs, including $20 million for suicide prevention outreach. I've also worked strengthen the VA's collaborations with research universities and teaching hospitals for the treatment and research of mental health disorders, such as Post-Traumatic Stress and traumatic brain injury. Lastly, I've strongly supported increased funding for VA homeless assistance so homeless veterans can secure the safe and reliable housing needed to get back on their feet.

Our men and women in uniform, past and present, put their lives on the line to protect the safety of those of us at home. Tomorrow – and every day – let us recommit ourselves to ensuring we keep our promise to our service members. We can pay tribute to their selflessness by providing them with the benefits they have earned through their service, as well as the support and resources they need to transition into civilian life.

To all of the veterans in Chicago and across the country, thank you for your service.

Sincerely,

Mike Quigley
