Continued Inaction in Congress

Dear Friend,

Now that Congress has adjourned for a seven week district work period, I'm sad to report that the House has decided to kick the can down the road on a number of critical issues facing our nation. Some of the issues that remain unresolved include:

Punting Action on Gun Violence Prevention: Speaker Paul Ryan and his leadership team decided to suspend any action on gun-related legislation until after the seven week summer recess, having failed to even call a vote on NRA backed bills due to dissent within his own caucus. This is an abdication of responsibility to our constituents. Throughout the summer months, I will continue to push my colleagues to give the American people a vote when we return in September to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and suspected terrorists.

Ignoring Public Health: For over four months, many of my colleagues on the other side of the aisle have blocked meaningful emergency funding to address Zika. Most recently, they chose to prioritize their assault on women's access to comprehensive health care over protecting families from the terrible impact of this disease. And they continue to block any action to help the thousands of children facing lifelong damage from drinking lead-poisoned water. This is simply unacceptable.

As my constituent, and a hard-working member of society, you deserve a government that protects your safety and invests in your future. I will continue to press for action to keep our community safe. Like my Facebook, Twitter or Instagrampage to share your thoughts with me.

Sincerely,

Mike Quigley
