Quigley Statement on New Administration Rules for For-Profit Colleges

June 2, 2011

WASHINGTON -- Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) issued the following statement after the Obama Administration issued new guidelines regarding for-profit colleges.

"I applaud the decision by the Obama administration to empower students and bring much-needed transparency and accountability to the for-profit college industry. Thanks to the new rules, these colleges must now be up front about accreditation and provide detailed explanations of costs and success rates. This is an important step toward preserving opportunities for students. Too many have been led astray by empty promises."

Last year, Quigley co-wrote an editorial with Sen. Dick Durbin (IL) about the need for increased oversight of for-profit colleges.
