Quigley Statement on THUD Appropriations Bill

June 10, 2015

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies (THUD), released the following statement in response to the passage of the fiscal year 2016 THUD appropriations bill (H.R. 2577). The measure came close to failing on the House floor in a 216-210 vote:

"I am incredibly disappointed that this year's THUD appropriations bill once again fails to provide vital investments in public housing and transportation infrastructure that are desperately needed around the country. Instead of investing in our future, the bill dramatically cuts key transportation and housing initiatives that could grow our economy, create jobs, and strengthen local communities. Despite the fact that every billion dollars invested in infrastructure creates 30,000 jobs, over the past 50 years, our nation's investment in infrastructure has shrunk by half. My constituents and hard-working Americans all across the country deserve job creating investments in roads, bridges, and rail systems and access to safe and affordable housing. It is time that Congress work together to give the American people what they are asking for."
