Quigley Statement on the USA FREEDOM Act

May 13, 2015

WASHINGTON – Today,U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and Chair of the Transparency Caucus, released the following statement on the House passage of the USA FREEDOM Act:

“Americans’ privacy and security are at the forefront of the USA FREEDOM Act. This legislation makes fundamental and necessary changes to government surveillance programs that strike the proper balance between protecting our national security and safeguarding the constitutional rights of the American people. As Chair of the Transparency Caucus, I’m encouraged that the bill not only ends bulk collection but also includes vital reforms to the NSA and the FISA court, providing the American people expanded oversight and increased transparency. Greater protection of our civil liberties with proper oversight of the intelligence community best serves our homeland security and our rights as citizens.”
