Quigley Statement on Highway Trust Fund Extension Bill

July 15, 2014

WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement after voting to pass H.R. 5021 the Highway and Transportation Funding Act of 2014:

"America's crumbling infrastructure requires sustained investments that will grow our economy, create jobs and strengthen local communities. While I support this short-term extension to keep highway and transit projects around the country from grinding to a halt, Congress must work towards a forward-thinking, long-term bill that reforms the Highway Trust Fund and ensures its solvency for generations to come."

Rep. Quigley is the only Illinois member currently serving on the House Appropriations Committee, where he has prioritized Chicago-area infrastructure investments as a member of the Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD). He recently argued for increased funding for the TIGER grant program and last year helped secure funding for Core Capacity grants that would benefit CTA.
