Quigley Statement on Murder of Wadea Al-Fayoume
Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), released the following statement on the death of 6-year old Palestinian-American boy, Wadea Al-Fayoume. Wadea and his mother were stabbed by their landlord who targeted them for being Muslim.
“Just a few weeks ago, Wadea celebrated his 6th birthday. Today, he will be laid to rest. Wadea was an innocent child whose life was cut short because of bigotry.
“His death is the epitome of evil – and the result of Islamophobic rhetoric radicalizing already hate-filled individuals. It’s despicable and we must speak up against it. Let’s be clear: Hamas does not represent the vast majority of the Palestinian people. This distinction is crucial to protect innocent Palestinians, other Arabs, and Muslims from being demonized and attacked.
“All Americans must come together to condemn Islamophobia and all forms of hate. Refusing to do so fails to acknowledge the evil that has ripped Wadea away and that continues to fester around the world.”
