This week, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), Co-Chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), concluded his tenth Climate Change Tour of Great Smoky Mountains National Park and announced the re-introduction of his National Parks protection legislation, the Reducing Waste in National Parks Act.
There’s an old saying about America’s transportation system, “if it rolls, floats, or flies, it comes through Chicago.” As a member of Congress on the congressional committee that funds transportation and housing infrastructure, I’m proud that the city I represent is so integral to our nation’s transportation system. But the infrastructure that has been so critical to my city, and our country’s success, is quickly becoming obsolete, and replacing it is taking too long.
Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (D-IL-05), and U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), reintroduced the bicameral Flood Mapping Modernization and Homeowner Empowerment Pilot Program Act of 2024. The bill would establish a pilot grant program through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to allow cities to develop better methods for mapping, understanding, and mitigating urban flooding while sharing findings with the federal government.
