CHICAGO, IL - In advance of Flag Day this weekend, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley’s office helped students at Farnsworth Elementary School celebrate the holiday by presenting educational “Our Flag” booklets as part of the school’s programs.

The "Our Flag" booklets are part of a 32-year tradition by the House of Representatives which seeks to inform citizens of the origins and significance of the powerful national symbol.  The history of the flag is detailed from its roots in the Revolutionary War to its present day form, with helpful information about other important flags, as well as how to obtain and care for the American flag.  This information was especially relevant to the students on Flag Day, when Americans celebrate the adoption of our national symbol.

"Flag Day is one of our highlight activities for the year. We have a parade, share important items relative to the flag, and sing songs pertaining to the flag," said Dr. Catherine Wells, Principal of Farnsworth Elementary School. "The booklets presented by Congressman Quigley add a special dimension to our activities."

While Cong. Quigley was in Washington voting on the House floor during the program, members of his staff participated in the festivities at the school, located in the Portage Park neighborhood.
