CHICAGO— Congressman Mike Quigley (D-IL) and his staff recently volunteered with the Young Leaders of Korean American Community Services (KACS) at an event to weatherize over a hundred living units for local senior residents. Just prior to Thanksgiving, more than 20 hard-working volunteers weatherized over 40 units at the Koram Senior Home (4444 N. Harding) alone, in advance of the imminent cold season. Quigley met with several of the building residents while helping to install kits of new light bulbs, low-flow faucet aerators, and other energy efficient measures. Following their hard work, Quigley and the team of volunteers were treated to a special meal with the seniors. “Whenever I’m home from Washington, I try to meet with neighbors and help them in any way I can,” said Congressman Quigley. “Weatherizing your home not only helps conserve our environmental resources, but it also helps you save money and live more comfortably. The Chicago winter can be unrelenting at times, and I hope our efforts will help keep the residents at Koram a bit warmer this year.” The volunteer event was sponsored by the Young Leaders of Korean American Community Services (KACS). Young Leaders of KACS was established in 2008 to provide an avenue for emerging leaders to serve on behalf of KACS and ensure that the organization remains responsive and relevant to the emerging needs and aspirations of the Korean-American community.
